The solar system is a science topic that so many children genuinely enjoy learning about and find fascinating. Who doesn't love learning about planets, dwarf planets, comets, and black holes? What child doesn't dream of being an astronaut and exploring the solar system in a spaceship?
Since there are so many things to learn about the solar system, this unit study is a fun way to introduce chemistry and physics to young children. The study of the solar system also includes math. A solar system unit study is useful in any grade level, and is easily adaptable, which is beneficial when homeschooling multiple children.
They will learn about each planet's moon(s), and how each planet orbits the sun, gas giants, planet temperatures, and so much more. Teach your kids about the eight planets, the dwarf planets, comets, stars, black holes, and our galaxy. After that, broaden the topic to learn about the whole Universe. Scientists learn something new every day, so you will never run out of new material.
Below you'll find many activities, readings, and more for your homeschool unit study on the solar system. These are, of course, educational, but also fun, exciting, and engaging for your children. By fostering your children's love for the solar system, and science in general, you are giving them a wealth of knowledge for their future. You never know! Your child might grow up to choose a career in astronomy!
